About Port Blair

Port Blair is the largest town and a municipal council in the Andaman district of Andaman Islands and the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India. It lies on the east coast of South Andaman Island and is the main entry point to the islands. Port Blair is the headquarters for the Indian district of South Andaman, and the local administrative sub-division (tehsil), which is also called Port Blair. It is home to several museums and a major base for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. It is also the headquarters of the Tri Services Command. As Andaman and Nicobar Islands being the Restricted Area under Foreign Nationals (Restricted) Order 1963, hence the provision of Restricted Area Permit (RAP) has been relaxed for the visit by Foreigners to 30 islands in A & N Islands. However, the citizens of China, Afghanistan & Pakistan and those who have origin in these countries and citizens of Myanmar intending to visit Mayabunder & Diglipur in North & Middle Andaman District continue to require prior approval of Ministry of Home Affairs to gain entry and avoid any inconvenience.
